NASCAR Models by BILL COULTER!!!

Richard Petty's 1961 Plymouth!

Comment from Bill:
"I finished this old Plymouth just in time for the October Toledo NN. I used a junk box built kit as the basis, a mixture of Yesterday's and JnJ decals and Tru-Match early Petty blue. The 60 Plymouth got a make-over as I had already opened the hood in anticipation of building the 61 and using the chassis from the 60 under it. I already had a chassis and engine ready for the 60 and was able to successfully transplant the chassis and engines without a hitch.

The 60 was built for one of my stock car books and the editors removed it from the manuscript. Later it appeared as an article in Car Modeler magazine. The model was originally built without an engine and with a promo-style chassis. I had built an engine, opened the hood and also prepared a chassis to take the engine etc. for this model. My plan was to quickly build a 61 and swap all the stuff from the 60 over to the 61 and finish the conversion of the 60 by activating the hood and installing the engine in the open engine bay chassis. It took quite a bit longer to get this whole thing done than I had thought originally. The October NNL in Maumee was the first time the 60 was displayed with an open hood and engine."

(Note from Mr NASCAR:
"And another Luminary in the world of NASCAR Modelling graces the Gallery! Bill Coulter is one of the legends of this hobby, having appeared many times over the years in Scale Auto, and he has published excellent books on NASCAR modelling - including "The Cars of the King", and "Building and Detailing Scale Model Stock Cars". I am very proud that Bill continues to send us these pictures to share!!")
