Vintage NASCAR Models from Chuck Poi!!!

Bobby Unser's 1973 Ford

Note From Chuck:
"Holman-Moody did not field a single entry for the '72 season, although they continued to build cars for other teams. John Holman struck a deal with Pepsi Cola for an entry in the upcoming 1973 Riverside 500. Bobby Unser was recruited to do the driving. He was considered a rookie so the rear bumper was painted yellow.

During the race either a spark plug or wire failed, but Unser still finished fourth. According to John Holman's son Lee, NASCAR had no problems with this Boss 429 equipped car being at Riverside, but subtley told them that it would not be welcome at Daytona. The car never raced again and is in unrestored condition belonging to a private owner. It was the last official entry by Holman-Moody.

The body is the Nostalgia Race Models resin copy of the MPC race only body. Running gear provided by Johan with additional pieces from Polar LIghts. Fred Cady decals and NRM tire/wheels. Model is marked the way it appeared at Holman Moody for the picture with the crew that constucted it, not the way it looked at Riverside. Since this was a Riverside car, I had to fill in the fuel filler recess on the normal left side and cut a hole on the right side. Riverside cars ran clockwise, so they were refueled on the passenger side. Although not apparent in my pictures, the hood, roof, and trunk are actually dark metallic blue. Inside was light blue."
