Vintage NASCAR Models from Chuck Poi!!!

Sam McQuagg's 1966 Charger - FireCracker 400 Winner..

Note From Chuck:
"When Dodge brought out the '66 Charger it certainly looked fast. Problem was at the high-speed tracks the roofline design was causing the back end to lift. Chrysler came up with a "dealer installed" optional rear spoiler. By today's standards it was extremely small. NASCAR approved it on the grounds of it being a safety item. This Charger was one of the Nichels' Engineering cars driven by Sam McQuagg. It won the Daytona Firecracker 400 marking the first time a car had won equipped with a rear spoiler. For '67 all cars were allowed to have one. Round 1 of the "aero wars" had begun.

Model is the MPC body mounted on the AMT '68 Roadrunner chassis & interior. Numbers, driver name and "DODGE" letters on quarter panel were hand made. "

(Note from Mr NASCAR: - As with Mike Madlinger, Chuck Poi was an inspiration to me to get into NASCAR modelling after seeing his work in Toledo in the '80's and '90's. Chuck is an original DarkSider! Chuck was also a major contributor to Motor Racing Replica News Magazine in its heyday, as the resident NASCAR expert. Thanks for sharing these great models, Chuck!

Here is info on Chuck's line of vintage resin NASCAR - his was the first resin I ever tried, with great results!:
