Not liking the ugly ol' air gap between the firewall and body, crush panels were made and glued to the firewall after body and chassis were assembled. Later, I had a different idea. With the slab sided race cars of today there was room to glue Plastruct angle to each side of the firewall before assembly. The body will easily drop over the chassis with a tighter fit.
One tool I don't recall hearing anyone else talk about is a paper punch. I punched out some sheet styrene and made covers for the screw holes in the chassis. The effect looks something like bulkhead access covers. The same punch-outs (chads?) can be used as headlight covers for dark side models too. Use thin aluminum or styrene as the headlight covers. Clear styrene or acetate can be used for flat headlight lenses in other applications. Remember to use white glue to keep the clear from fogging.

Deciding I didn't like the air gap between the chassis and rear bumper, a small filler strip was cut out of thin styrene and painted to match. Initially satisfied with the result, another idea popped into the old noggin. A larger piece was cut that covered both the air gap and rear screw holes with one smooth piece. A little paint and glue finishes off the bottom of the car."
