Nelson Stacy's 1962 Charlotte Winner

Quote from Lou:
"... The 1962 Charlotte World 600 was run two weeks before the Atlanta race which featured Ford's Starlift cars. Holman-Moody had hoped to run the Starlifts at Charlotte but NASCAR would not allow it then. Holman-Moody then scrambled to prepare two short track cars for it's drivers Lorenzen and Stacy. According to Greg Fielden's book "CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY" Stacy was given a red car for the race instead of the usual yellow body he was used to. Stacy won the World 600 in this car. The amusing thing about the picture in the book is that he appears to be running yellow wheels on the car. I guess he had to have something yellow to remind everyone of how things should be.

This car also started out as a 1961 Galaxie 4-door police car. Body preparation and conversion is the same as with the 1962 Starlift Fred Lorenzen car except that I decided to be satisfied with the in-place roof. "
