'60's Quebecois Racers

by Michel Gosselin from Quebec

Story from Michel:

"My name is Michel Gosselin; (when) I lived in St-Jerome, Quebec, I started to go to stock car races in 1960 at Riverside Speedway. A couple of years after I started building plastic models of the cars running in those days. I still have 5 of them which I am sending you picture of. In those days the only kit available to make these cars was a 1940 ford that I used, modifying them myself.

The blue car (above) was Andre Manny's 27A, who in those days was track champion.
The model was painted in Manny's garage with the same paint that he used for the real stock car. Manny is now 75 years old and I still see him once in a wild (Michel likely means "once in a while", but I like the turn of phrase - Mr N.).

The white car (above) was Jean Paul Cabana's 5A, who was a good competitor to Manny

The white and gold car (above) was Jean guy Chartrand's 901, who competed with those guys,
and after went to The States and drove many years with the 69 car.

The B-14 the red car (above) was Gilles Brochu's car he drove with those guys to and ran a few times in the North-end States tracks.

The white and red car F-57 was driven by Gerard Major in those days.

These drivers and others used to race at Riverside Speedway in Laval, Fury Speedway in Laval, Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburg NY, Catamount Speedway in Milton, Vermont. Manny and Cabana raced in Martinsville, Virginia, and at Daytona Speedway, Florida in the Permatex 300. All the drivers mentioned above except Brochu are alive and well and I see them or talk to them on a regular basis."

(Note from Mr N: "Michel - thanks for sharing these great old models with us. They must hold fantastic memories!")
