NASCAR MODELS by MR NASCAR

Jeff Green, one of the racing Green brothers, pilotted the Greg Pollux-owned NESQUIK Monte Carlo to the BGN Championship in 2000. Jeff has worked hard over the years to gain a foothold in the NASCAR Racing Elite. From his start in BGN in 1990 (2 starts, $1350 earnings) he progressed to the BGN pinnacle in 2000, taking the NESQUIK Chevy into first place in the Points Race. En route to his Championship, he had 6 wins and 25 top 5's, with 1.9 million earnings - not bad for a support series...
The model shown was built from the surprisingly well-executed ProFinish kit from REVELL. I started with the 2000 Gordon "Silver" car, and without giving any thought to the preprinted decals, laid down a couple coats of PlastiKote white primer. Surprisingly, there was no interaction with the preprinted decals, and I was able to sand the edges, and after a couple coats, all evidence of the preprinted decals were buried/sanded away. It was that simple. I then laid on a couple coats of TAMIYA #16 Yellow, which seemed an excellent match to the colour in my references.
The graphics from Sam contained all the graphics, including the chocolate "splashes". except the fender contingency decals, which were from the SLIXX 2000 Grouped sheet. Once i had all the graphics in place, I dusted on several coats of TAMIYA TS13 clear, then followed it up with a buffing with Turtle brand polishing wax.
The chassis for this model was built box stock. I did not paint the chassis, but threw some silver on those parts cast in "silver" plastic, and a coat of semi-gloss paint on the black-moulded parts. Overall, I only needed about two-three hours to finish off the chassis, and results were excellent!
Over the years, Jeff has had some shots at the WC level, most notably a brief stint in the CARTOON NETWORKS Chevy in 1996. In 2001, due to the sad passing of Dale Earnhardt, Jeff is getting a few starts in the AOL-sponsored car that had been planned for Kevin Harvick.
Maybe next year will be his year to finally make his mark in the top series for RCR. At 40 years of age then, he will be right in his prime as a WC driver!
