1949 Phantom Valvoline Ford

Comment from Patrick:
" "In 1999, on the 50th anniversary of NASCAR, I was wondering was a series might look lke that featured 1949 era car bodies with 1999 NASCAR frames, chassis and safety equipment.

I also thought this would have been a cool marketing idea for Humpy Wheeler and the folks at Charlotte (Lowe's) Motor Speedway.

The model is an ERTL 1949 Ford that had to have the body shortened by taking out a portion of the roof and then rejoining the front and back halves together. The wheel wells were widened and as you can see, it sports taped up headlights, screen door mesh for the front intake and no 'aero package'. The decals are from the Revell/Monogram 1999 Mark Martin Ford Taurus and everything is stock.

It was another rambling from my warped mind. But then I did read where Humpy wanted to bring back the convertible division to NASCAR... so maybe I wasn't all wrong! "
