On lap 257, Mark returned to the race with a car that featured raw sheet metal and a duct tape number with screen door material over the radiator held in place with bungee cords.
I modeled the car with only two reference photos and a tape of the race
available (that is a photo of the actual car on the billboard behind the
wall). I had also cut off the end of my right index finger 6 weeks
earlier. This was part of my physical therapy. It was also the first
time I ever put a saw to a plastic model.
Mark was good enough to autograph it for me in 1997 at a Ford dealership in Texas."
