Randy Slack's Olds Cutlass Salon LMS

decals by BULLRING GRAPHIX!

Story from Rod:
"The Slack family name is one of the most well known and respected in Canadian stock car racing history. Randy Slack had a stout local career mainly in Late Models and went on to successes racing Big Rig trucks. His parents Bob and Leone Slack made Cayuga Speedway one of the finest short tracks on the continent in the 1970s.

When Tom Faletti mastered this Cutlass Salon body style, I knew that we had to do a sheet of Randy Slack decals. His version was one of very few that ran in Canada and what patriot could not be a fan of his trademark Maple Leaf number style?

In the interests of time, this one was built as a curbside. The chassis is from an Olds Delta 88 NASCAR kit and the main change to it was to build a short-track style tin kit out of Evergreen sheet plastic.

The track was widened and the rear was lowered to get the right stance. I added some exhaust dumps through the door, Detail Master hood pins and a fabricated net is draped over the roof as seen in a victory lane shot of the real car.

The project was stalled for a while as I geared up the courage to make the glass out of acetate but in the end that was not that difficult. I made some cardstock templates and then traced them onto acetate with a Sharpie. I mounted the rear quarter windows from the outside with some canopy glue and I was happy with the result.

The resin body is currently available from Fred's Resin Workshop (www.fredsresinworkshop.com) and there was very little prep required for this one. The only change I made to the body was to add some cooling holes in the front bumper and to close up the side-marker lights and taillights with Evergreen sheet. "
