decals by BULLRING GRAPHIX!

This Challenger was his last Mopar before switching to Camaro. The Challenger actually suffered a fatal crash after going out of the racetrack at Cayuga and Clark went on to finish the season in arch-rival Dick Flaig's back-up car.

The body for this one comes from Revell 1/25 Challenger that was released in spring 2009 that had its roots as a diecast. Some of commented that the kit is shows too many of its diecast roots, for example the body is a little big and is somewhat slab sided. The slab sides kind of work well for a stock car. I added a hood scoop made from an old seat back and side bars made from Evergreen strips.
The paint colour is Tamiya's Coral Blue. It was the closest I could find to match my memory of the shade that Art called Bimini Blue. I looked for a Bimini Blue in the online paint charts but could not find it. The real colour had a hint of green or teal in it that doesn't really show in pictures that well.

The chassis underneath is the AMT kit car with a wider cage added from an old Revellogram NASCAR kit. The 383 from the Challenger was used instead of the Kit Car 340 and it filled up the engine compartment nicely. I also used Revellogram NASCAR tires on a set of wheels from Fred's Resin Workshop. Whenever anyone sees one of my Late Model builds they always ask about the wheels. Fred's got a wide selection of wheels and they really set off the builds. I added a little thinned black paint over the silver to weather them a little. One of these days I'll weather the body on one of my builds but I just love that opening day look :).
The paint scheme and sponsors varied little throughout the 70s and you can build many different cars from the Bullring Graphix sheet including the Challenger, his previous Dart and later Camaros. Many of his cars from the 80s can also be built if you paint the orange-red stripe on the lower part of the car. He used the same distinctive number style for most of his career
