Phil Zampino's 1972 Chevelle - 1974 Season

decals by BULLRING GRAPHIX!

Story from Rod:
"This is a model of one of my favourite Late Models from my youth. This car was a show car at the beginning of the year and it was pretty quick as well. Phil Zampino was the driver and he ran the Chevelle for two seasons mainly at Pinecrest Speedway outside of Toronto. The1973 season with Muntz Stereo sponsorship and in 1974 with Bradford Auto Service. The decal sheet will do both versions of the car.

The kit is an AMT 72 Chevelle with PPP wheels & tires I got from Fred's Resin Workshop. The cage is modified from a Revellogram NASCAR kit on the interior tub from the AMT Chevelle Malibu/Monte Carlo stock car kit that Model King reissued. The chassis is cut down from the 72 Chevelle kit. It has the big block engine from the 72 Chevelle as well but the detail is mostly curbside.

Body details include hood and trunk hinges (non-functional), photo etched hood pins and a rolled up window net. The headlights, turn signals and tail lights were blocked out with Evergreen sheet. I tried something a little different on the Goodyear tire markings with a couple of coats of water-thinned Tamiya Smoke and then a dusting with Testor's Dullcoat. The 427 on the hood is a little oversized but this has been reduced on the artwork.
